Dispatch from the Razor's Edge, the Blog of Michael Stephen Fuchs
Bestsellers!

Delighted and amazed to announce that our new ARISEN books have both pleasingly popped up on Amazon's bestseller lists – and have proceeded to climb them smartly. The first ARISEN book rocketed to the top of the free charts, when we made it free for a few days to promote the series:

Of course, it's relatively easy to shift a lot of books when they're free. I got a similar outcome when I made D-BOYS free to promote the launch of the sequel, COUNTER-ASSAULT:

But then, very pleasingly, ARISEN Book Two began to chart, with rankings produced by people actually paying for it:

Then, after the free promotion was over, Book One really began to climb the charts – first in the War category and then, rather more pleasingly to Glynn, in Horror.

Finally, in the weirdest twist, in Amazon's new bestselling author rankings, I found myself appearing in the Horror list – initially at 100 and, as of today, 65.

Yes – I am officially the 65th bestselling horror author on Amazon. This is particularly weird and gratifying as I'm not a horror author. (Glynn, who thank goodness has been ranked ahead of me on both occasions, begged to differ. I suppose he has a point.) Oh, and I hope you like my new author photo half as much as I do. (Yes, that's a zombie target. And a full-auto G36 assault rifle.

Oh, ARISEN Book One is also enjoying a 4.8-star average for reviews on Amazon.com, with some very gratifying and supportive reviews, which is just fantastic.

As a final cautionary note: however many books you're imagining one has to shift to achieve those rankings, it's probably a whole lot fewer in reality. But, still, it's great news. And guess what? I am now officially "bestselling author Michael Stephen Fuchs" (like everyone else – bestselling, not Michael Stephen Fuchs).

Glynn and I are both working on other books at the moment, but are looking to start on ARISEN Book Three in the next couple of weeks, and hoping to have it out by the end of the year. Judging from the above (and by the comments to this effect in reviews), we've got readers waiting for it. Yip.

Oh, to celebrate all this, I'm making my new book COUNTER-ASSAULT free for three days, starting tomorrow (Friday the 26th).

about
close photo of Michael Stephen Fuchs

Fuchs is the author of the novels The Manuscript and Pandora's Sisters, both published worldwide by Macmillan in hardback, paperback and all e-book formats (and in translation); the D-Boys series of high-tech, high-concept, spec-ops military adventure novels – D-Boys, Counter-Assault, and Close Quarters Battle (coming in 2016); and is co-author, with Glynn James, of the bestselling Arisen series of special-operations military ZA novels. The second nicest thing anyone has ever said about his work was: "Fuchs seems to operate on the narrative principle of 'when in doubt put in a firefight'." (Kirkus Reviews, more here.)

Fuchs was born in New York; schooled in Virginia (UVa); and later emigrated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he lived through the dot-com boom. Subsequently he decamped for an extended period of tramping before finally rocking up in London, where he now makes his home. He does a lot of travel blogging, most recently of some very  long  walks around the British Isles. He's been writing and developing for the web since 1994 and shows no particularly hopeful signs of stopping.
