Book Eight Launch Date

So it's typically about 36 hours after we launch a book that the flood of messages starts: WHEN'S THE NEXT BOOK!? Usually, our answer is: Jeesh, we just finished this one - and it cost us months of our lives and gallons of blood! But this time, we've got a better answer:

ARISEN, Book Eight - Empire of the Dead

launches on December 17, 2014

WHY TWO BOOKS?

Basically, we simply had too much story on our hands for one. I went off on a bit of a tear, and was soon on track for over 130,000 words - for what was supposed to be my *half* of the book alone. We also had too many pages - as one volume, it wouldn't even print with Createspace, who do our paperbacks. In the end, both books got written sort of in parallel, with us not knowing for certain until rather late which material was going into which books, and the first one getting put to bed only a few weeks before the second.

So, yes, they're companion pieces.

In any case, I for one worked *really* long and hard, and certainly feel like I just got finished writing two hard, full-length books back-to-back. And we're certainly hoping it will feel to our readers like an early Christmas present, which is what's intended. Finally – I'm pretty confident readers will be REALLY happy by the time they get to the end.

Oh, yeah – we know we cliffhanged the hell out of you again. But it's a maximum of three weeks to wait! (Which beats six months!)

about
close photo of Michael Stephen Fuchs

Fuchs is the author of the novels The Manuscript and Pandora's Sisters, both published worldwide by Macmillan in hardback, paperback and all e-book formats (and in translation); the D-Boys series of high-tech, high-concept, spec-ops military adventure novels – D-Boys, Counter-Assault, and Close Quarters Battle (coming in 2016); and is co-author, with Glynn James, of the bestselling Arisen series of special-operations military ZA novels. The second nicest thing anyone has ever said about his work was: "Fuchs seems to operate on the narrative principle of 'when in doubt put in a firefight'." (Kirkus Reviews, more here.)

Fuchs was born in New York; schooled in Virginia (UVa); and later emigrated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he lived through the dot-com boom. Subsequently he decamped for an extended period of tramping before finally rocking up in London, where he now makes his home. He does a lot of travel blogging, most recently of some very  long  walks around the British Isles. He's been writing and developing for the web since 1994 and shows no particularly hopeful signs of stopping.
