The Cost of Modernity

This "modernity", so envisioned, is a kind of power, certainly, and no doubt in important part a kind of truth too.

However, here in this vision above all, it appears to have lost its footing as regards wisdom, blessing or love, just as surely as regards felicity.

I'm not pitting some mutually exclusive other over against this vision, for that would only be to play into its hands. However, I do doubt that this empire is *as* true or even *as* powerful as its drunken cheerleaders imagine. Thank {...}.

Though I may be wrong, in which case I must return the ticket, even so.
