2009.11.27 : Tunes to Move You
Complete & Total Asskicking Music
"So say a benediction,
  For a new addiction,
  In voyeuristic overdrive.
3 - This is the new flesh,
2 - This is the open door,
  1 - We've got everything you wanted.
You want it all right now!"
- Blue Stahli, ULTRAnumb

So today marks the launch of this new thing I've been fiddling with on and off for a couple of months now. It's a music site – tailored totally for runners, cyclists, weightlifters, aerobicizers, gym rats, and all others who rely totally on their workout MP3 playlists to get themselves moving.

The site is called (mincing no words):

– and can be found at (pretty intuitively, I think):

The basic notion was that I've probably put in hundreds (if not thousands) of hours collecting more, and better, and even more, and ever better, high-energy music for workouts. (It becomes a real addiction.) I've also gotten good feedback on the several occasions I've put together playlists for friends for their workouts. So I figured I may as leverage all that time into something a little more enduring and generally useful. The result looks a little like this:

As you can see, there are a variety of ways to sort, filter, explore, and preview new music. (All of it asskicking.) I've only really begun to pour in the tunes; but I've made a good start – there are an awful lot of killer tracks, from really stellar artists that I've discovered along the path.

Anyway, you are very cordially invited to wander on in, poke around, listen to some tunes – and send along any suggestions for improvement as occur to you. You might also decide to pass the link on to all your exercise music addict friends.

Cheers,
Michael

about
close photo of Michael Stephen Fuchs

Fuchs is the author of the novels The Manuscript and Pandora's Sisters, both published worldwide by Macmillan in hardback, paperback and all e-book formats (and in translation); the D-Boys series of high-tech, high-concept, spec-ops military adventure novels – D-Boys, Counter-Assault, and Close Quarters Battle (coming in 2016); and is co-author, with Glynn James, of the bestselling Arisen series of special-operations military ZA novels. The second nicest thing anyone has ever said about his work was: "Fuchs seems to operate on the narrative principle of 'when in doubt put in a firefight'." (Kirkus Reviews, more here.)

Fuchs was born in New York; schooled in Virginia (UVa); and later emigrated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he lived through the dot-com boom. Subsequently he decamped for an extended period of tramping before finally rocking up in London, where he now makes his home. He does a lot of travel blogging, most recently of some very  long  walks around the British Isles. He's been writing and developing for the web since 1994 and shows no particularly hopeful signs of stopping.
