ARISEN, Book Four
MAXIMUM VIOLENCE

Glynn and I are ridiculously excited to announce the launch of the next book in our ARISEN series. Both sales and reader response to the books have been super-fantastic, and we're so happy and grateful for it all – so we figured the best way to live up to that was to fill the next book with even more of the things readers have been cheering about. That means CRAZY-ASS OVER-THE-TOP NON-STOP ACTION, in spades, and poured on with a dumptruck. This book is explosive, and we hope our fans enjoy reading it half as much as we enjoyed writing it.

cover of ARISEN, BOOK FOUR - MAXIMUM VIOLENCE

In Canterbury, as the virus rages out of control, one troop of Royal Marine Commandos fights a 360-degree battle for survival, while also racing to rescue the Channel Tunnel survivors from a relentless siege – all before Hellfire missile strikes and carpet-bombing kill anyone left alive. Across the Atlantic, the crew of the John F. Kennedy risks a catastrophic reactor meltdown to get out of the path of a ten-mile-wide tide of the dead; while, onshore at the Naval Air Base, Wesley's tiny team maintains a lonely vigil – which turns horrifyingly dangerous as the edge of the storm hits, pushing desperate civilians ahead of it. In the air above, Gunnery Sergeant Fick leads a hand-picked fire-team of spec-ops Marines halfway across North America to take and defend an airfield on a remote island – but learns to his cost that it is a place with a terrible history, and very dangerous secrets. Finally, out on Lake Michigan, Alpha team races toward extraction… but first must fight their most harrowing battle yet – this time against the living, who are both more treacherous and a hell of a lot better armed than the dead.

Who will be left standing at the end? Find out – if your heart can take the strain – in the biggest and most explosive ARISEN book yet: ARISEN, BOOK FOUR - MAXIMUM VIOLENCE.

ARISEN, BOOK FIVE – EXODUS

Update! Both Book Four, and the newly totally free Book One, have charted the Amazon bestseller lists on day one. Book Four has started pleasingly high on both the horror and war genre lists; and the freebie Book One is at #1 on both of those lists. That pretty much rocks.
Updated Update! On day two, Book Four has nearly cracked the top 1,000 overall, and freebie Book One briefly got over the hump to top 10 overall. Both new records for us. Yay!

And just because it will almost certainly never come again – here's the profound oddity of me on Amazon's Top 10 Horror Authors list. (Scroll down. Way down.) Update: Now Glynn and I are both in the Top 10! Just me, and Glynn, and good ole J.A. Konrath, kicking it.

Updated Update Updated! Okay, I think we've peaked – well into the Top 1,000 overall.
I stand corrected. A week in, and we're into the Top 500.

As an end note: I'm enormously proud of this one – I think we both are – although these damned things keep getting harder, rather than easier, to write! I'd thought that, writing episodic/serial fiction, once we'd established our characters and their world, we then mainly just had to come up with new adventures and push the larger story forward. But it seems that we've kept having to raise the stakes – and also I think we keep raising our standards about what's good enough, what's thrilling enough. (Not to mention that, as our characters continue to take on lives of their own, they increasingly want to do things we as writers may or may not be able to pull off!) So this has definitely been the hardest one yet. But I think it's turned out to be everything we hoped for it, and probably rather more.

We can't wait to see what the readers think. We're also, frankly, looking to push the ranking on this one to new heights. We shall see!

about
close photo of Michael Stephen Fuchs

Fuchs is the author of the novels The Manuscript and Pandora's Sisters, both published worldwide by Macmillan in hardback, paperback and all e-book formats (and in translation); the D-Boys series of high-tech, high-concept, spec-ops military adventure novels – D-Boys, Counter-Assault, and Close Quarters Battle (coming in 2016); and is co-author, with Glynn James, of the bestselling Arisen series of special-operations military ZA novels. The second nicest thing anyone has ever said about his work was: "Fuchs seems to operate on the narrative principle of 'when in doubt put in a firefight'." (Kirkus Reviews, more here.)

Fuchs was born in New York; schooled in Virginia (UVa); and later emigrated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he lived through the dot-com boom. Subsequently he decamped for an extended period of tramping before finally rocking up in London, where he now makes his home. He does a lot of travel blogging, most recently of some very  long  walks around the British Isles. He's been writing and developing for the web since 1994 and shows no particularly hopeful signs of stopping.
