ARISEN : Odyssey

ARISEN : Odyssey

What's the Story?

At the end of ARISEN, Book Three - Three Parts Dead, Homer slipped away from the rest of Alpha team and took off with Sarah Cameron, in a hopeless and probably suicidal quest to cross a third of undead North America and rescue his family. Two big books later, on the last page of Book Five - EXODUS, they reappeared out of a blue sky, landing on the deck of the Kennedy in a small plane, with Homer's two children in tow. In the Alpha ready room, hints were dropped about a certain Naval Special Warfare unit based in Dam Neck, Virginia still being operational. Otherwise… all was total mystery. On November 30th, it will be a mystery no longer. All will be revealed. And the last greatest adventure in the main ARISEN story arc will finally be told.

Will There Be An Audiobook Edition?
And More Importantly, Will R.C. Bray Narrate It?

YES, and YES. The less great answer is to the question, When? Unfortunately, being the greatest audiobook narrator in the known universe, Bray is fiendishly and increasingly difficult to schedule. And Podium Publishing – who, as always, completely and utterly control the scheduling, production, and publication of the audiobook, involving me not at all – wouldn't schedule him until they had a committed delivery date and word count for the book. And, unfortunately, it's impossible for me to know how much time the book is going to take, nor how long it's going to be, until I'm basically at or very near the end. (I will never compromise the quality to hit artificial deadlines or word counts.) But, also as always, I will absolutely keep you posted in real time of any and everything they tell me about progress on this. It will happen. (Just, alas, probably not all that quickly…)

How Long is This Bad Boy, in the End?

Nearly exactly 100,000 words. (About 400 pages.)

Will There Be Pre-Orders?

Alas, no. Also as always, Amazon will only allow pre-orders if I upload the finished book ten days before it goes on sale. This means I get to take your money earlier, but you get the book later (ten days later than necessary) – which strikes me as a poor deal for you. I'd rather get the book into your hands as soon as possible. But thanks very much for wanting to give me money.

When Can I Order a Paperback Copy?

As always, just as soon as I can organize it. Also as always, the paperback interior and jacket design take a bit more time – and proofing a paper copy (i.e. me carefully reading the whole damn thing for the eighth or so time) takes longer. Will do my very best, and keep you posted! (Bless you, paper readers.)

about
close photo of Michael Stephen Fuchs

Fuchs is the author of the novels The Manuscript and Pandora's Sisters, both published worldwide by Macmillan in hardback, paperback and all e-book formats (and in translation); the D-Boys series of high-tech, high-concept, spec-ops military adventure novels – D-Boys, Counter-Assault, and Close Quarters Battle (coming in 2016); and is co-author, with Glynn James, of the bestselling Arisen series of special-operations military ZA novels. The second nicest thing anyone has ever said about his work was: "Fuchs seems to operate on the narrative principle of 'when in doubt put in a firefight'." (Kirkus Reviews, more here.)

Fuchs was born in New York; schooled in Virginia (UVa); and later emigrated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he lived through the dot-com boom. Subsequently he decamped for an extended period of tramping before finally rocking up in London, where he now makes his home. He does a lot of travel blogging, most recently of some very  long  walks around the British Isles. He's been writing and developing for the web since 1994 and shows no particularly hopeful signs of stopping.
